Softball Game Preview: Davis Sr. Blue Devils vs. Elk Grove Thundering Herd

Davis Sr. hasn't had much luck against Elk Grove recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Blue Devils will venture away from home to challenge the Thundering Herd at 3:30 p.m. The last three games Davis Sr. has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

Things were looking good for Davis Sr. after they put the first run on the board on Tuesday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They fell just short of Inderkum by a score of 4-3. That's two games in a row now that the Blue Devils have lost by just one run.

Davis Sr. saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Isabel Chavez-Berman, who went 1-for-3 with one home run.

Meanwhile, Elk Grove hadn't done well against St. Francis recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Thundering Herd came out on top against the Troubadours by a score of 4-3 (the very same score they lost by in their prior game). For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Thundering Herd have posted since March 11, 2025.

Rachel Willams looked comfortable as she didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Tamiayh Ward, who went 1-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.

Davis Sr.'s loss dropped their record down to 0-3. As for Elk Grove, they now have a winning record of 3-2.

Davis Sr. skirted past Elk Grove 8-7 in their previous meeting back in March of 2025. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Blue Devils since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
