Baseball Game Preview: Ventura Cougars vs. Dos Pueblos Chargers

The Ventura Cougars are taking a road trip to square off against the Dos Pueblos Chargers at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a seven-game winning streak alive.

Ventura barely beat Rio Mesa the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Cougars blew past the Spartans 11-1 on Friday. The result was nothing new for the Cougars, who have now won eight matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Caleb Sebek made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with one run.

In other batting news, Elijah Burt was incredible, going 1-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Wylan Nelson, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI and one double.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Dos Pueblos). They put the hurt on Oxnard with a sharp 15-6 win on Friday. Considering the Chargers have won eight games by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Ventura pushed their record up to 18-6-1 with the victory, which was their seventh straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.3 runs over those games. As for Dos Pueblos, their record now sits at 18-8.

Ventura couldn't quite get it done against Dos Pueblos when the teams last played back in April of 2024 as they fell 3-0. Can the Cougars avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
