Basketball Recap: Highland Drops Season-High Score on Summit Academy

Highland was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their tenth straight loss dating back to last season. They received a blow as they fell 54-35 to the Summit Academy Bears. One positive for the Rams, at least, is that this was the most points they've scored all season.

Despite the loss, Highland still got an impressive performance from Kennedy Gurgel, who posted 14 points and eight rebounds. Those eight rebounds gave Gurgel a new career-high.

Even though they lost, Highland smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 22 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.

Kita Holmes was a one-woman wrecking crew for Summit Academy as she went 9 of 17 on her way to 25 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Sierra Johnson, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 12 boards.

Highland's record is now 0-9. As for Summit Academy, they moved to 2-5 with that victory, which also ended their four-game losing streak.

Highland didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 67-19 defeat against Syracuse on the 17th. As for Summit Academy, they will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Wendover at 11:00 a.m. on December 27th.
