Softball Recap: Rancho Buena Vista Has No Trouble Against Oceanside

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Rancho Buena Vista walked away with it. They put the hurt on the Oceanside Pirates with a sharp 9-2 victory on Wednesday. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Longhorns also won the last time the pair played back in March of 2023.

Danica Nielsen made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and one double. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Sophia Cruz, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. Those two runs gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Riley McGee, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs.

Rancho Buena Vista was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .391. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Oceanside only posted a batting average of .120.

The win made it two in a row for Rancho Buena Vista and bumps their season record up to 15-11. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 2 run in those games. As for Oceanside, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 12-12.

As of now, neither Rancho Buena Vista nor the Pirates have any future games scheduled.
