The Johnson-Brock Eagles will be taking part in a tournament against the Diller-Odell Griffin at 5:45 p.m. on Monday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
While Johnson-Brock's victory against Lourdes Central Catholic wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Eagles won by a set and slipped past the Knights 2-1. The win continues a trend for the Eagles in their matchups with the Knights: they've now won five in a row.
It was an exciting match in which no team won back-to-back sets, but at the end of the day Johnson-Brock got the one that really mattered. The final score came out to 25-17, 23-25, 25-22.
Johnson-Brock found their leader in sophomore Isabell Bishop, who had 18 digs.
Meanwhile, Diller-Odell sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-1 victory over Pawnee City on Thursday.
Diller-Odell was dominant in they sets they won, taking each by at least 11 points. The match finished with set scores of 16-25, 25-9, 25-14.
Johnson-Brock's win bumped their record up to 13-9. As for Diller-Odell, their victory bumped their record up to 10-13.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Monday's matchup: Johnson-Brock has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 5.5 aces per game. However, it's not like Diller-Odell struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 5.4 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Johnson-Brock took their win against Diller-Odell when the teams last played two weeks ago by a conclusive 3-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
