Baseball Game Preview: Soquel Knights vs. Everett Alvarez Eagles

The Soquel Knights will venture away from home to face off against the Everett Alvarez Eagles at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Soquel sitting on seven straight victories and Everett Alvarez on three.

On Saturday, Soquel beat Westmont 6-3.

Jake Escalante made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up a single hit in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. That home run was his first of the season.

In other pitching news, Dane Morrison looked comfortable as he tossed 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (five).

Escalante wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Gabe Virgallito, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI. Another was Sam Whelan, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases.

Soquel hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most five strikeouts in 15 consecutive matches dating back to last season.

Meanwhile, Everett Alvarez got the win against Encina last Saturday by a conclusive 15-1. Considering the Eagles have won four games by more than 12 runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Soquel pushed their record up to 7-0 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. As for Everett Alvarez, their record now sits at 5-2.

Soquel came out on top in a nail-biter against Everett Alvarez when the teams last played back in February of 2024, sneaking past 7-5. The rematch might be a little tougher for Soquel since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
