Softball Game Preview: Westridge Tigers vs. Providence Pioneers

Westridge hasn't had much luck against Providence recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Tigers will look to defend their home field against the Pioneers at 3:30 p.m. Westridge has given up an average of 12.8 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Westridge is headed into Monday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their ninth straight game on Friday. They lost 16-4 to Polytechnic.

Meanwhile, Providence beat Flintridge Prep 13-10 on Friday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Pioneers.

Madelynn Watts made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up five earned (and five unearned) runs off nine hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with three RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Providence let Delailah Lopez and Gloria Galindo run wild. Lopez went 3-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI, while Galindo went 3-for-4 with four runs, three RBI, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Evangelina Aleman, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Providence kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. They are 7-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

Providence's victory bumped their record up to 9-4. As for Westridge, their loss dropped their record down to 4-11-1.
