The Southwest Guilford Cowboys will head out on the road to square off against the Cornerstone Charter Cardinals at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams are strolling into their matchups after big wins in their previous games.
Southwest Guilford is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Everything went their way against Grimsley on Tuesday as Southwest Guilford made off with a 24-1 win. The Cowboys haven't had any issues with the Whirlies recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive victory against them.
Stevee Kendrick was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring a run while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
In other batting news, Amelia Stewart was a standout: she went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Makayla Stefanik, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI.
Southwest Guilford always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .737. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Cornerstone Charter got themselves on the board against Carver on Tuesday, but Carver never followed suit. They were the clear victor by a 15-0 margin over the Yellowjackets. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Cardinals.
The team relied heavily on Evie Hill, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. That triple was her first of the season. Evelyn Croatt was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-1.
The win got Cornerstone Charter back to even at 3-3. As for Southwest Guilford, they now have a winning record of 5-4.
Cornerstone Charter's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Southwest Guilford has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 8.7 hits per game. It's a different story for Cornerstone Charter, though, as they've been averaging 9.7 hits. Given Southwest Guilford's sizable advantage in that area, Cornerstone Charter will need to find a way to close that gap.
