Baseball Recap: Grosse Pointe North Takes a Loss

Grosse Pointe North extended their losing streak to four on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 2-11 in the process. They lost 13-4 to the Utica Chieftains. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Chieftains this season, with their most recent loss being a 2-1 defeat on Wednesday.

Grosse Pointe North saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was DJ Edwards, who went 2-for-4 with one run.

As for Utica, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 7-10. They not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since April 5th (when they won 14-2).

On Utica's side, Michael Hoppe was a standout: he got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. Those three runs gave Hoppe a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Cam Matuzak, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI.

Coming up, Grosse Pointe North will welcome Edison Academy at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Utica, they will head out to square off against Northville at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Mustangs' pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so the Chieftains' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
