Even though the SouthWest Edgecombe Cougars scored an imposing 62 points on Thursday, the Ayden - Grifton Chargers still came out on top. Ayden - Grifton managed a 67-62 win over SouthWest Edgecombe. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Ayden - Grifton.
Ayden - Grifton was led to victory by Josiha Crandell and Cam Honey. Crandell scored 16 points along with six rebounds and three blocks, while Honey scored 21 points along with six rebounds and three steals. Crandell hasn't dropped below 15points for four straight games. Another player making a difference was Hatteras Jenkins, who scored 16 points.
SouthWest Edgecombe lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Justin Bridgers, who scored 20 points along with four blocks. Bridgers hasn't dropped below two blocks for nine straight games. Rodney Pettiway was another key contributor, scoring eight points.
Ayden - Grifton's victory bumped their record up to 11-5. As for SouthWest Edgecombe, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-6 record this season.
Ayden - Grifton will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Washington at 7:30 p.m. on January 23rd. As for SouthWest Edgecombe, they will head out on the road to take on Tarboro at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday.
