Softball Game Preview: Mater Dei Catholic Crusaders vs. Bonita Vista Barons

The Mater Dei Catholic Crusaders will head out to square off against the Bonita Vista Barons at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The last three games Mater Dei Catholic has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

Mater Dei Catholic is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Otay Ranch just ended the team's eight-game winning streak on Wednesday. They fell just short of the Mustangs by a score of 4-3.

Charlize 'Chuck' Masingale made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with three RBI and one double.

Meanwhile, Bonita Vista never let their opponents score on Friday. They walked away with a 5-0 victory over Otay Ranch. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Barons.

Not much got past Danica Aboytes, who gave up just three hits to keep Otay Ranch off the board. Aboytes has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Bonita Vista's win was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Sabrina Perez, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.

Bonita Vista's victory bumped their record up to 19-5. As for Mater Dei Catholic, their loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 20-6.

Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Mater Dei Catholic has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.6 hits per game. However, it's not like Bonita Vista struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.1 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Mater Dei Catholic skirted past Bonita Vista 2-1 in their previous matchup last Friday. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Crusaders since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
