Recap: Woodruff Wolverines vs. Emerald Vikings
The Woodruff Wolverines waltzed into their match on Friday with two straight wins but they left with three. They snuck past Emerald with a 42-37 victory. That's another feather in the cap for Woodruff, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Woodruff got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Jasmine Mcknight out in front who scored eight points along with seven rebounds and two steals. Another player making a difference was Jaylen Means, who scored 11 points along with six rebounds.
When it comes to explaining why Emerald lost, one person who can't be blamed is Ti'yonia Tennant. Despite the final result, she scored seven points along with 13 rebounds and two blocks. Tennant is absolutely dominating the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. Adrianna Smith was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
Woodruff is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 9-11 record this season. As for Emerald, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-9.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Woodruff will take on Clinton at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Clinton is looking to tack on another W to their four-game streak on the road. As for Emerald, they will look to defend their home court on Monday against Chester at 6:00 p.m. Chester is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak.
