Softball Recap: Baldwin Indians vs. Episcopal School of Jacksonville Eagles

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Baldwin had no problem doing just that on Thursday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Episcopal School of Jacksonville Eagles 2-1. The victory was familiar territory for Baldwin who now have seven in a row.

Shaylen Bryd spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on two hits and racked up 12 Ks.

At the plate, Cali Hartung was excellent, going 1-for-3 with a home run.

On Episcopal School of Jacksonville's side, Grace Jones put in work while hitting and pitching. She struck out ten batters over eight innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Jones has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts every time she's pitched this season. Jones was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with a stolen base.

In other batting news, Claire Cinnamond made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and got on base in three of her four plate appearances with a home run.

Baldwin's win bumped their record up to 26-1. As for Episcopal School of Jacksonville, their defeat dropped their record down to 23-3.
