Baseball Recap: Greenfield-Central Triumphs

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against McCutcheon, Greenfield-Central was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. They came out on top against the Mt. Vernon Marauders by a score of 4-1. This was payback for the Cougars, who suffered a 2-1 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Parker Rhodes spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on four hits and racked up 13 Ks. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Greenfield-Central is 4-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 7-8 otherwise.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Jacob Welch, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run. Another player making a difference was Brady Johnson, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI.

Greenfield-Central's record is now 11-9. As for Mt. Vernon, they moved to 11-6 with that loss, which also ended their six-game winning streak.

Greenfield-Central will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Marauders: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
