Basketball Preview: Oskaloosa Bears vs. Jackson Heights Cobras
Oskaloosa is 1-9 against the Cobras since January of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Oskaloosa Bears will head out on the road to square off against the Jackson Heights Cobras at 6:00 p.m. Oskaloosa knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past three matches -- so hopefully the Cobras like a good challenge.
A well-balanced attack led Oskaloosa over the Rams in every quarter on their way to victory on Wednesday. Oskaloosa blew past the Rams 60-37. Winning is a bit easier when you make eight more threes than your opponent, as Oskaloosa did.
Oskaloosa got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Richie Rockhold out in front who scored 13 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Rockhold has scored all season. Trenten Vanhoutan was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Even though Jackson Heights has not done well against the Tigers recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Jackson Heights took their game on the road with ease, bagging a 54-15 victory over the Tigers. That 39 point margin sets a new team best for Jackson Heights this season.
Oskaloosa is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 7-5 record this season. As for Jackson Heights, their win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 7-5-1.
Oskaloosa came up short against the Cobras in their previous meeting back in February of 2023, falling 61-54. Can Oskaloosa avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
