Basketball Recap: Sunlake Piles Up the Points Against Land O' Lakes

After losing to Land O' Lakes the last time they met, Sunlake decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Sunlake Seahawks really took it to the Land O' Lakes Gators for the full four quarters, racking up a 51-24 win. The Seahawks have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five matchups by 23 points or more this season.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Sunlake to victory, but perhaps none more so than Kaycie Hyde, who went 7 of 14 on her way to 16 points in addition to eight boards and three steals. Hyde has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last 13 times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Cherity Powells, who went 5 for 12 on her way to 12 points in addition to seven rebounds and four steals.

Sunlake smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 24 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive boards in five consecutive contests.

Despite the loss, Land O' Lakes had strong showings from Jessi Saffold, who posted seven points along with ten boards and six steals, and Julia Foster, who had five points in addition to seven steals and five boards. The dominant performance also gave Foster a new career-high in blocks (two). Another player making a difference was Faith Mince, who put up three points.

Sunlake is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten games, which provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 28.0 points per game. As for Land O' Lakes, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-9.

Sunlake didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 56-20 victory against East Lake on the 8th. As for Land O' Lakes, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 54-26 defeat against River Ridge on the 9th.
