Basketball Game Preview: El Capitan Eagles vs. Water Canyon Wildcats

The El Capitan Eagles will be defending their home court for the first time this season when they go up against the Water Canyon Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Water Canyon took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on El Capitan, who comes in off a win.

El Capitan picked up another tournament win on Saturday. They skirted past Ash Fork 39-36.

Samantha Hammon was her usual excellent self, going 11 for 21 on her way to 24 points and seven rebounds. Hammon is also crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Ruth Timpson was another key player, putting up 11 points along with seven assists and five steals.

Meanwhile, Water Canyon suffered their biggest defeat since February 6th on Thursday. They were beaten by Enterprise 74-40. The Wildcats were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 44-19.

Loss or not, Water Canyon got some senior leadership from Alysha Cooke and Martha Jessop. Cooke dropped a double-double on 12 points and 11 boards, while Jessop went 7 of 12 on her way to 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Joann Barlow, who posted two points in addition to seven rebounds, four blocks, and three steals.

Water Canyon's defeat dropped their record down to 4-3. As for El Capitan, the victory got them back to even at 3-3.
