Mitchell and Avery County are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2019, but likely not for long. The Mountaineers will be playing in front of their home fans against the Vikings at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Thursday just wasn't the day for Mitchell's offense. They lost 14-0 to Madison on Thursday. The Mountaineers' defeat continues a trend for the squad, making it three in a row.

Mitchell saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Gracie Silver, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one double.

Meanwhile, Avery County came up short against Mountain Heritage last Thursday, falling 14-1. The Vikings have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Avery County's loss dropped their record down to 2-11. As for Mitchell, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-11.

Mitchell was able to grind out a solid win over Avery County in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, winning 10-7. Will the Mountaineers repeat their success, or do the Vikings have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
