Baseball Recap: Lyons Takes a Loss

Lyons blew Downers Grove North out of the water the last time the pair played, but on Thursday Downers Grove North got their revenge. The Lions fell just short of the Trojans by a score of 14-12. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Lions, who until this contest were averaging 3.93 runs allowed.

Luke Nicholaus and Blake Ragsdale did some serious damage despite the final result: Nicholaus got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one triple, one run, and one RBI, while Ragsdale went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Justin Heydorn, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.

Lyons has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 19-9 record this season. Even worse, they were so close so many times: the losses came by an average of only 1.67 runs. As for Downers Grove North, their victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 23-6.

Looking ahead, Lyons will head out on the road to square off against Oak Park-River Forest at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Downers Grove North, they will be playing at home against Berwyn/Cicero Morton at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Mustangs will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something the Trojans surely won't give up without a fight.
