Softball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Foothill

It was a Battle of the Birds when Foothill challenged Boulder City on Wednesday. The Falcons' pitcher stepped up to hand the Eagles an 8-0 shutout. Fans of the Falcons have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 6+ runs.

Leah Henderson made a big impact no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 13 over seven innings pitched. Those 13 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with three RBI and one triple. She has been hot recently, having posted three or more RBI the last four times she's played.

In other batting news, Jordan Ackerman was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one home run and two runs. Another player making a difference was Camren VanThomme, who went 1-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.

The win (which was Foothill's third in a row) raised their record to 3-0. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.3 runs on average this season. As for Boulder City, they are on a six-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-5.

Looking ahead, Foothill will be playing in front of their home fans against Desert Pines at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. The Jaguars have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11.2 runs per game on average), something the Falcons will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Boulder City, they will head out on the road to face off against Bonneville at 8:00 a.m. on the 13th.
