Baseball Game Preview: Brillion Lions vs. New Holstein Huskies

The Brillion Lions are taking a road trip to square off against the New Holstein Huskies at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Brillion is coming into the contest hot, having won their last 16 games.

On Saturday, Brillion earned a 9-6 victory over Oostburg.

Brillion got a great performance from Kelvin Gilbertson as he struck out seven batters over six innings while giving up five earned runs off six hits (and only one walk). Gilbertson has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Chase Braun was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April. McCormick Zutz was another key player, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two RBI and one double.

Brillion always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .568. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Oostburg only posted an OBP of .290.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for New Holstein, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. Everything went their way against Valders on Thursday as they made off with an 8-2 win.

New Holstein let Ethan Schmitz and Parker Popp run wild. Schmitz went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run, while Popp went 2-for-3 with two runs.

Brillion's record is now 17-2. As for New Holstein, their record now sits at 9-5.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Brillion has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.4 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like New Holstein struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
