Softball Game Preview: Walnut Hills Eagles vs. Loveland Tigers

Walnut Hills hasn't had much luck against Loveland recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Eagles are taking a road trip to square off against the Tigers at 5:00 p.m. Walnut Hills is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.4 runs per game this season.

Walnut Hills came out on top against Princeton on Saturday thanks in part to the team's impressive eight-run sixth inning. The Eagles walked away with a 10-5 victory over the Vikings. The win continues a trend for the Eagles in their matchups with the Vikings: they've now won three in a row.

Evie Denen made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up five earned runs off seven hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in April of 2024. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two runs.

In other batting news, Selina Rios was incredible, going 2-for-3 with five RBI, one triple, and one run. Another player making a difference was Becca Zilliox, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Meanwhile, Loveland was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They came up short against Beavercreek, falling 11-4.

Loveland saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Rylee Ripperger, who went 1-for-3 with one home run.

Loveland's defeat dropped their record down to 5-8. As for Walnut Hills, the victory got them back to even at 4-4.

Walnut Hills might still be hurting after the 14-3 loss they got from Loveland in their previous matchup on April 1st. Can the Eagles avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
