Baseball Game Preview: Jellico Blue Devils vs. Campbell County Cougars

The Jellico Blue Devils will square off against the Campbell County Cougars at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Jellico is looking for their season's first win.

Jellico came up short against Oliver Springs on Tuesday, falling 16-1.

Jellico saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mason Dople, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-1. Wyatt Baird also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Meanwhile, Campbell County can bid farewell to their six-game losing streak thanks to their game on Friday. They blew past Hancock County 8-1.

Eli Lawson made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single hit and allowed only one earned run while striking out six over 4.2 innings pitched. Those six strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, Campbell County got a massive performance out of Dylan Ford, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Those three runs gave Ford a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Riley Gunter, who scored a run and stole four bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.

Campbell County's victory bumped their record up to 5-10. As for Jellico, their loss dropped their record down to 0-10.

Jellico skirted past Campbell County 8-6 when the teams last played back in March of 2024. Will the Blue Devils repeat their success, or do the Cougars have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
