Baseball Game Preview: Hammond Central Wolves vs. Lake Station Edison Fighting Eagles

The Hammond Central Wolves will venture away from home to face off against the Lake Station Edison Fighting Eagles at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Hammond Central has given up an average of 10.1 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

On Wednesday, Hammond Central came up short against Hammond Morton and fell 12-7. The Wolves haven't had much luck with the Governors recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.

Jansel Savinon made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in three of his five plate appearances with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season. Another player making a difference was William McCoy, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with two runs.

Lake Station Edison played against Calumet New Tech on Tuesday and won via forfeit.

The victory made it two in a row for Lake Station Edison and bumps their season record up to 7-12. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 6 runs in those games. As for Hammond Central, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-16-1.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Hammond Central has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.1 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Lake Station Edison struggles in that department as they've been averaging 5.5 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.

Everything went Hammond Central's way against Lake Station Edison in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, as Hammond Central made off with a 10-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wolves since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
