Basketball Recap: Burlingame Wins Going Away Against West Elk

On Thursday, the Burlingame Bearcats strolled past the West Elk Patriots with points to spare, taking the game 54-40. The Bearcats pushed the score to 46-23 by the end of the third, a deficit the Patriots cut but never quite recovered from.

When it comes to explaining why West Elk lost, don't look at Maddex Moreno. Despite the final result, he posted 17 points and six rebounds. Moreno has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last seven times he's played. Garett Usry was another key player, putting up 11 points.

Burlingame's victory bumped their record up to 13-3. As for West Elk, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 10-8.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Burlingame will venture away from home to challenge Mission Valley on Tuesday. As for West Elk, they won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Oxford at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. West Elk is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 50.6 points per game this season.
