Baseball Recap: West Chicago Comes Up Short

South Elgin hit West Chicago with a nine-run second inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Wildcats lost 14-6 to the Storm. The Wildcats were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Storm apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.

West Chicago saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Tommy Doyle, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run. Lucas Wheat also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

West Chicago has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-16 record this season. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.8 runs over those games. As for South Elgin, they pushed their record up to 16-9 with the win, which was their seventh straight on the road.
