Basketball Game Preview: South Bend Adams Eagles vs. Portage Indians

The South Bend Adams Eagles will venture away from home to square off against the Portage Indians at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Last Thursday, South Bend Adams was beaten by South Bend St. Joseph 87-58. The Eagles haven't had much luck with the Huskies recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.

Meanwhile, Portage waltzed into their match on Thursday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They put the hurt on the Bulldogs with a sharp 64-40 victory. The Indians have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven contests by 21 points or more this season.

South Bend Adams better keep an eye on Michael Wellman. He was instrumental in Portage's win, going 6 of 8 on his way to 21 points. What's more, Wellman also racked up two blocks, the most he's had since back in February of 2024. Another player making a difference was Sam Wellman, who posted 11 points and seven rebounds.

Portage smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in three consecutive games.

Portage's win was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 13-4. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.3 points over those games. As for South Bend Adams, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-8.

South Bend Adams lost to Portage on the road by a decisive 87-71 margin in their previous meeting back in February of 2024. Can South Bend Adams avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
