Douglas County took a ten-run defeat the last time they faced off against Castle View, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Huskies narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Sabercats 13-12. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
The team relied heavily on Bricen Moore, who went 2-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in May of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Gunnar Gienger, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Douglas County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They are 4-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Erie got themselves on the board against Frederick on Thursday, but Frederick never followed suit. They blew past the Golden Eagles 10-0. The Tigers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matches by seven runs or more this season.
Erie also got a great performance from Peyton Watts as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out six over five innings pitched. Watts has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits any time he's pitched this season.
At the plate, Austin Muir and Ronin Ward did most of the damage at the plate: Muir went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run, while Ward went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. Ward has become a key player for Erie: the team is 9-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 2-4 otherwise. Jack Carnival was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one triple and one run.
Douglas County is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a massive bump to their 5-8 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.0 runs over those games. As for Erie, their win bumped their record up to 11-5.
Saturday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Douglas County hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .324. However, it's not like Erie struggles in that department as they've averaged .333. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
