Recap: Hough Huskies vs. West Mecklenburg Hawks
The Hough Huskies's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight loss. They fell just short of West Mecklenburg by a score of 41-39. Hough was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as West Mecklenburg apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January.
Hough's loss came despite strong showings from Evan Otto and Cole Galombeck. Otto scored 12 points along with six rebounds, while Galombeck scored 14 points along with three steals. Those 12 points set a new season-high mark for him.
West Mecklenburg's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Cam Higgins led the charge by scoring 16 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Josiah Pratt, who scored ten points along with six rebounds and four blocks.
Hough's loss was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 1-8. As for West Mecklenburg, the victory got them back to even at 4-4.
Hough will be home for the holidays to greet Statesville at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Statesville is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak. West Mecklenburg will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on North Mecklenburg at 7:30 p.m. on January 5, 2024.
