Holy Cross hasn't had much luck against Riverside recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Crusaders will be playing at home against the Vikings at 4:30 p.m. The last three games Holy Cross has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
The home team had won the previous four meetings between Holy Cross and Lakeland, and Lakeland kept the tradition alive. The Crusaders fell just short of the Chiefs by a score of 9-8 on Friday. That's two games in a row now that the Crusaders have lost by just one run.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Riverside). Everything went their way against West Scranton on Saturday as they made off with a 14-8 victory. The result was nothing new for the Vikings, who have now won six contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Cooper Borowski was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over 4.2 innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off only one hit. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.
In other batting news, Riverside let Chase Taddonio and Nicholas Bohenek run wild. Taddonio went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, five RBI, and three runs, while Bohenek went 4-for-5 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run. That's the most hits Taddonio has posted since back in April of 2024. Chris Graff was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Riverside was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .412. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as West Scranton only posted a batting average of .222.
Holy Cross' defeat dropped their record down to 4-9. As for Riverside, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 8-4.
