Baseball Game Preview: Robinson Senators vs. South Side Hornet

The Robinson Senators will take on the South Side Hornet at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Robinson will bounce into Thursday's match after beating Nashville, who they had gone 0-3 against in their three prior meetings. The Senators had just enough and edged out the Scrappers 10-8. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Senators' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask South Side). They put the hurt on Baptist Prep with a sharp 14-2 win on Tuesday. With that victory, the Hornet brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.

Haze Hulse made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off eight hits (and only one walk). South Side is 2-1 when Hulse allows two or fewer earned runs, but 3-5 otherwise. Hulse was even better at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 4-for-4. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in doubles (two).

In other batting news, Josh Brock was a standout: he went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Cody Kuykendoll, who scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-3.

South Side hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Baptist Prep struck out six times.

Robinson's win bumped their record up to 7-4. As for South Side, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-6.

Robinson was able to grind out a solid win over South Side in their previous matchup back in February of 2024, winning 5-1. Will the Senators repeat their success, or do the Hornet have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
