Recap: Mater Lakes Academy Bears vs. Riviera Prep Bulldogs
It was a good run, but the Mater Lakes Academy Bears unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Monday. They lost to Riviera Prep on the road by a decisive 63-49 margin. Mater Lakes Academy was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Riviera Prep apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January of 2023.
Despite the loss, Mater Lakes Academy still got an impressive performance from Christian Reid, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 11 rebounds. Reid is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last five games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Khanye Moss, who scored 12 points.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Riviera Prep to victory, but perhaps none more so than Gustavo Guimaraes Alves, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds. Guimaraes Alves has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last five times he's played. Dante Allen was another key contributor, scoring 19 points along with two steals.
Mater Lakes Academy's loss dropped their record down to 14-7. As for Riviera Prep, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 16-5 record this season.
Mater Lakes Academy on the road again on Saturday and play against Orlando Christian Prep at 4:30 p.m. on January 27th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Florida (Orlando Christian Prep is ranked 14th, while Mater Lakes Academy is ranked 13th). As for Riviera Prep, they will face off against Prolific Prep of Napa Christian at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in Prolific Prep of Napa Christian's favor is that they have posted big point totals every time they've taken the court this season.
