Baseball Recap: Dougherty Valley Comes Up Short

Dougherty Valley had lost six straight on the road, but on Wednesday they dropped down to 5-17 to make it seven. They fell just short of the Monte Vista Mustangs by a score of 4-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Wildcats have suffered since March 10th.

Brendan Weng made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with one run and one double. Mikey Wong was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

As for Monte Vista, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games.

On Monte Vista's side, Anson Liptak looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. Liptak has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Monte Vista's victory was truly a team effort as seven different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Gabe Coca, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI. Another was Torin Dunphy, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.

While Dougherty Valley had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
