Softball Preview: Evadale Rebels vs. Deweyville Pirates
Evadale and Deweyville are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2019, but likely not for long. The Evadale Rebels will head out on the road to square off against the Deweyville Pirates at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Evadale is looking to tack on another W to their ten-game streak on the road dating back to last season.
Last Friday, Evadale had just enough and edged Big Sandy out 8-7. Despite the victory, that was the fewest runs Evadale has scored all year.
Meanwhile, Deweyville narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Big Sandy 4-2. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Deweyville.
B Smith made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out 15 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. Smith has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't pitched less than seven innings in five consecutive pitching appearances. Smith was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-2 with two RBI and a double.
In other batting news, E Meyers was excellent, scoring a run while going 2-for-2.
Evadale's victory bumped their record up to 9-0. As for Deweyville, their win bumped their record up to 7-2.
Everything went Evadale's way against Deweyville when the teams last played back in April of 2023 as Evadale made off with an 11-1 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Evadale since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
