Football Game Preview: Opelika Bulldogs vs. Thompson Warriors + How To Watch

After both having extra time off, the Opelika Bulldogs and the Thompson Warriors will shake off the rust and duke it out at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a four-game winning streak alive.

Opelika is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup last Friday. They skirted past Auburn 31-28.

CJ Johnson was nothing short of spectacular: he rushed for 185 yards and one score while picking up 8.0 yards per carry. Those 185 rushing yards gave him a new career-high.

Opelika's defense stepped up as well, laying out Cason Myers six times. The heavy lifting was done by Tremaine Thomas and Carson Riddle, who racked up four sacks between them. Another thorn in Auburn's side was Norman Matthews, who picked up a sack, made ten total tackles, and defended one pass.

Special teams also played a big role in the game for Opelika, adding 13 points to the final score. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Johnson, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.

Last Friday fans watched as two of the best teams in the nation hit the field. Thompson slipped by Central 35-34.

Thompson found their leader in sophomore Urijah Casey, who rushed for 106 yards and one TD on only 13 carries. Casey's longest rush was for an impressive 53 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total. Darion Moseley was another key player, picking up 100 receiving yards and one touchdown.

Thompson didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off five passes before the game was over. Damonte Tabb led the group effort, picking up two of those interceptions all by himself. Chance Strown is also on a roll when it comes to total tackles, as he's now made six or more in each of the last five games he's played.

Opelika's win bumped their record up to 10-3. As for Thompson, their victory bumped their record up to an identical 10-3.

Opelika was dealt a bruising 44-13 defeat at the hands of Thompson in their previous matchup back in August of 2023. Can the Bulldogs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
