Baseball Game Preview: University of Detroit Jesuit Cubs vs. Notre Dame Prep Fighting Irish

The University of Detroit Jesuit Cubs will head out on the road to face off against the Notre Dame Prep Fighting Irish at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. University of Detroit Jesuit will be strutting in after a victory while Notre Dame Prep will be coming in after a loss.

University of Detroit Jesuit is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Their pitcher stepped up to hand University Liggett a 4-0 shutout on Saturday. The win continues a trend for the Cubs in their matchups with the Knights: they've now won four in a row.

The result came thanks to Tommy O'Shea's shutout, as he gave up just a hit and racked up 12 Ks.

At the plate, University of Detroit Jesuit's victory was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Kyle Hand, who went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Those two hits gave Hand a new career-high. Monir Alkammoun also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Meanwhile, Notre Dame Prep fell victim to Flushing and their airtight pitching crew on Saturday. They took a 3-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Raiders. The Fighting Irish have struggled against the Raiders recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meeting.

Notre Dame Prep's defeat dropped their record down to 8-4. As for University of Detroit Jesuit, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-9-1.

University of Detroit Jesuit couldn't quite get it done against Notre Dame Prep when the teams last played back in March of 2016 as they fell 5-2. Can the Cubs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
