Baseball Recap: Radford Comes Up Short

It was a proper cat-fight when Radford faced off against Patrick County on Friday. The Bobcats fell just short of the Cougars by a score of 7-6. The Bobcats haven't had much luck with the Cougars recently, as the team has come up short the last six times they've met.

Mason Murphy was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He struck out nine batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off seven hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Parker Billings made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double.

Radford's defeat dropped their record down to 3-6-1. As for Patrick County, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 12-3.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Radford will face off against Alleghany at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Patrick County, they will head out to square off against Floyd County at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The last three games the Buffaloes have played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
