The Caravel Academy Buccaneers will challenge the Smyrna Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Caravel Academy has four straight victories, Smyrna has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Smyrna's hitters are going to have their work cut out for them on Saturday: Caravel Academy hadn't allowed a single run the last four times they've hit the field. The Buccaneers' pitcher stepped up to hand Middletown an 8-0 shutout on Thursday. With that win, the Buccaneers brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.
Orvy Potts made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out eight over seven innings pitched. Potts was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 1-for-2.
In other batting news, Gavin Evans was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI. Quinn Hamrick was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two RBI.
Meanwhile, Smyrna fell victim to Indian River and their airtight pitching crew on Thursday. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 4-0 to the Braves, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior.
Smyrna also got a good showing from Nick Campbell, who tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits.
On the hitting side, Smyrna saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Dylan Oakley, who went 1-for-3 with one triple.
Smyrna's loss dropped their record down to 0-3. As for Caravel Academy, their victory was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-0.
Caravel Academy might still be hurting after the 11-0 defeat they got from Smyrna in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Will the Buccaneers have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
