Basketball Recap: Cumberland Gap Piles Up the Points Against Coalfield

While Cumberland Gap didn't have the best season last year (they finished 7-22), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They breezed by the Coalfield Yellow Jackets to the tune of 76-34 on Friday. The Panthers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six games by 21 points or more this season.

Leading Cumberland Gap to victory were Kolton Goins and Brady Harris. Goins went 10 for 19 from beyond the arc on his way to 32 points, while Harris almost dropped a double-double on 22 points and nine rebounds. The contest was Goins' fourth in a row with at least ten points. Neil Bunch was another key player, putting up five points along with six assists and five boards.

Cumberland Gap pushed their record up to 8-5 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 70.8 points per game. As for Coalfield, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-5.

Cumberland Gap didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 58-50 victory against Oliver Springs on the 28th. As for Coalfield, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Greenback at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
