Basketball Game Preview: Carpinteria Warriors vs. Santa Paula Cardinals

The Carpinteria Warriors will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against the Santa Paula Cardinals at 7:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Last Saturday, Carpinteria ended up a good deal behind Santa Ynez and lost 80-65. The Warriors haven't had much luck with the Pirates recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Santa Paula duked it out withKerman on Saturday. Santa Paula took down Kerman 79-63. Given the Cardinals' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 414th, while the Lions are ranked 839th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Santa Paula is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 10-6 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 75.5 points per game. As for Carpinteria, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-8.

Carpinteria came up short against Santa Paula when the teams last played back in January of 2024, falling 59-55. Can Carpinteria avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
