Softball Recap: Gustine Triumphs

Gustine's game on Wednesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. They had just enough and edged out the Denair Coyotes 8-7. This was a revenge game for the Reds: when they faced off against the Coyotes on Monday, they had to take a 20-10 loss.

Malia Huhane was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and four unearned) runs off five hits. Huhane was also big at the plate, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with one run and one RBI. What's more, she posted three hits, the most she's had since back in April of 2025.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Juliana Martinez, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in February of 2025. Olivia Rocha also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.

Gustine kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are 2-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

Gustine's win was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 2-5. As for Denair, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-9 record this season.

Gustine has already played their next matchup, a 13-5 defeat against Delhi on the 30th. As for Denair, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, an 18-12 victory against Waterford on the 1st.
