Football Preview: Nixon-Smiley Mustangs vs. Three Rivers Bulldogs

The Nixon-Smiley Mustangs will look to take advantage of their home-field for the first time this season as they take on the Three Rivers Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.

Nixon-Smiley is headed into their home opener looking to turn things around after opening their season on the road. They fell 21-12 to Luling on Friday.

Although Nixon-Smiley took the loss, they still got scores from Eric Rodriguez and Adrian Zamora.

Meanwhile, Three Rivers took care of business in their home opener on Friday (barely). They won a match that couldn't have been any closer, slipping by Falls City 28-27.

A big part of the win came down to the chemistry between Cody Sells and his top target Xavier Carranza. Sells rushed for 76 yards and a touchdown while Carranza picked up 77 receiving yards and a touchdown. Carranza also put in work on the defensive side of the ball, forcing a fumble and making four total tackles.

Three Rivers wouldn't let Falls City keep a hold of the ball as they managed to force three fumbles. Three Rivers can thank Jaysean Banks and Carranza for forcing all of them. Banks' also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D, forcing two fumbles and making six total tackles.

Nixon-Smiley came up short against Three Rivers in their previous matchup back in September of 2023, falling 14-8. Thankfully for Nixon-Smiley, Caden Soliz (who rushed for 80 yards and a touchdown on only ten carries, and also threw for 188 yards and a touchdown while completing 90.9% of his passes) won't be suiting up this time.
