Preview: Colonia Patriots vs. Rahway Indians
Colonia is 1-0 against Rahway since October of 2022, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Colonia Patriots will be playing in front of their home fans against the Rahway Indians at 6:00 p.m. Given that the pair suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.
Colonia's game on Friday was all tied up 28-28 at the half, but sadly for them it didn't stay that way. They were dealt a 64-35 loss at the hands of Summit. While losing is never fun, Colonia can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New Jersey football rankings (they are ranked 170th, while Summit is ranked 36th).
The losing side was boosted by Jaeden Jones, who rushed for 113 yards and three touchdowns on only 14 carries, and also threw for 278 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 11.1 yards per attempt. Jones is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last seven games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Nygel Hill, who picked up 167 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Rahway's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight loss. They fell to Carteret 19-15.
Despite the defeat, Rahway got a solid performance out of Andrew Avent, who rushed for 94 yards and two touchdowns.
Colonia's loss dropped their record down to 4-4. As for Rahway, their defeat was their sixth straight on the road (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 3-5.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday' match: Colonia has been on an offensive roll this season, having averaged 367.2 total yards per game. It's a different story for Rahway, though, as they've been averaging only 201 per game. Will Colonia be able to march up the field at their leisure again, or will Rahway flip the ?
Colonia won a contest that couldn't have been any closer when the teams last played back in October of 2022, slipping by Rahway 21-20. Will Colonia repeat their success, or does Rahway have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
