Softball Recap: Depaul College Prep Wins Going Away Against Saint Ignatius College Prep

DePaul College Prep hadn't done well against Saint Ignatius College Prep recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Rams put the hurt on the Wolfpack with a sharp 8-2 win. This was a revenge game for the Rams: when they faced off against the Wolfpack on April 5th, they had to take a 1-0 loss.

Lauren Steele made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kylie Johnson, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Those two hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Seina Gilner, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

The victory made it two in a row for DePaul College Prep and bumps their season record up to 6-16. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.0 runs over those games. As for Saint Ignatius College Prep, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-12 record this season.

DePaul College Prep will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against Regina Dominican at 4:30 p.m. The Rams' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Panthers have averaged an impressive 10.3 runs per game this season. As for Saint Ignatius College Prep, they will venture away from home to square off against Trinity at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
