The Whitwell Tigers are taking a road trip to take on the Bledsoe County Warriors at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Whitwell will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each game than the last.
Whitwell had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 11-run drubbing they dealt Grundy County on Tuesday. The Tigers never let the Yellowjackets get on the board and left with an 11-0 win. Considering the Tigers have won four contests by more than seven runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Whitwell let Kendal Holtcamp and Lillian Ray run wild. Holtcamp scored a run while going 3-for-3, while Ray scored two runs while going 3-for-3. That's the most hits Holtcamp has posted since back in March of 2024. Ella Layne was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-2.
Whitwell always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .607. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Bledsoe County sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-0 victory over South Pittsburg on Monday. The Warriors haven't had any issues with the Pirates recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive win against them.
The result came thanks to Josie Potter's shutout, as she gave up just two hits and racked up 17 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Bledsoe County's victory was truly a team effort as two different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Macy Holland, who scored a run while going 1-for-4.
Whitwell's win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-8. As for Bledsoe County, their record is now 7-5-1.
Bledsoe County's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Whitwell hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .325. It's a different story for Bledsoe County, though, as they've only averaged .210. Will they be able to contain Whitwell's hitters?
Whitwell couldn't quite finish off Bledsoe County in their previous meeting back in March and fell 3-1. Can the Tigers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
