Lockport is a perfect 10-0 against Homewood-Flossmoor since May of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Porters will challenge the Vikings at 4:30 p.m. Lockport will be looking to extend their current eight-game winning streak.
Lockport is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Illinois' top teams: Minooka, who was ranked 25th at the time (Lockport was ranked ninth). The Porters won by a run and slipped past the Indians 4-3.
Bridget Faut spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on four hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in six consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Rheanna Slavicek, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one double.
Bloom typically has all the answers at home, but on Saturday Homewood-Flossmoor proved too difficult a challenge. They put the hurt on the Blazing Trojan with a sharp 11-4 victory. The Vikings not only won on Saturday, but they posted their biggest win since April 21st (when they won 12-2).
Anna 'Rici' Richmond made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off ten hits. Richmond was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base and one run. Those three hits gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Izzy Thurman was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Elodie Sullivan, who went 3-for-5 with three RBI, two doubles, and one run.
Homewood-Flossmoor kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Lockport's win was their tenth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 22-9. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.2 runs over those games. As for Homewood-Flossmoor, their record now sits at 10-14.
Lockport took their win against Homewood-Flossmoor in their previous meeting back in April by a conclusive 11-1 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Porters since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
