Currituck County and Holmes are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2017, but likely not for long. Currituck County will be playing in front of their home fans against Holmes at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Currituck County lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Manteo, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Friday's match. Currituck County blew past Manteo 12-2 on Friday.
Mason Beliles
Mason Beliles made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Currituck County is 3-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 3-4 otherwise. Beliles was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 1-for-2.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Riley Anderson, who scored three runs and stole three bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. What's more, he posted three RBI, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Caden Barth, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, Holmes came tearing into Thursday's contest with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6.2 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Panthers a 14-0 shutout. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win the Aces have posted against the Panthers since April 14, 2017.
Like Currituck County, Holmes also got a great game from a two-way player: Maddox Bass. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. Bass has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two hits in six consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring four runs and stealing three bases while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, Darius Oliver was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Ashton Stallings was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing four bases while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.
Holmes' victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-2. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.8 runs over those games. As for Currituck County, they now have a winning record of 6-5.
Currituck County was able to grind out a solid victory over Holmes in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, winning 6-1. Does Currituck County have another victory up their sleeve, or will Holmes turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
