Baseball Recap: Dickinson Takes a Loss

Dickinson extended their losing streak to five on Monday, dropping their season record down to 3-8 in the process. They lost 10-1 to the First State Military Academy Bulldogs. The Rams were not able to make up for their defeat to the Bulldogs from their previous meeting back in April of 2024.

As for First State Military Academy, they pushed their record up to 5-6 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for their hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.

For First State Military Academy's part, Steven Bright and Maddox Holland made a splash while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Bright didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. Meanwhile, Holland tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Bright has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. At bat, Bright got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs, while Holland went 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Bright is becoming a predictor of First State Military Academy's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 1-6 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Aaron Black, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2024. Caden Allaband also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Coming up, Dickinson will take on Brandywine at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for First State Military Academy, they will face off against Delaware Military Academy at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Seahawks' pitching crew has only allowed 2.4 runs per game this season, so the Bulldogs' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
