Softball Game Preview: Oldham County Colonels vs. Cooper Jaguars

The Oldham County Colonels will take on the Cooper Jaguars at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Neither Oldham County nor Cooper posted many runs in their last games, so it might be the pitching crews that decide this one.

On Wednesday, Oldham County came up short against Silver Creek and fell 6-2. The game marked the Colonels' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Jozie Lashley was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. She struck out eight batters over 3.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in two of her three plate appearances.

Lashley wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Kayla Cartledge, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base. That stolen base was Cartledge's first of the season.

Meanwhile, Tuesday just wasn't the day for Cooper's offense. They lost 15-0 to Scott County on Tuesday. The Jaguars have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Having lost for the first time this season, Oldham County fell to 4-1. As for Cooper, their loss dropped their record down to 1-8.

Cooper's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Thursday. Oldham County has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Cooper, though, as they've been averaging only 1.6 strikeouts. Will Oldham County keep running through batters, or will Cooper buck the trend?
