Football Recap: Wayne Takes a Loss

If Wayne was riding high fresh off their 46-0 takedown of Lincoln County last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Pioneers took a 25-20 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Tug Valley Panthers on Friday.

Tug Valley's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Bryson Elia, who rushed for 196 yards and two scores while picking up 8.5 yards per carry. The Panthers are undefeated when Elia posts two or more rushing touchdowns, but 1-2 otherwise. Cameron Slone was another key receiver, picking up 161 receiving yards and a pair of TDs.

Wayne now has a losing record of 3-4. As for Tug Valley, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 4-2.

Looking ahead, Wayne will face off against Chapmanville Regional at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Tigers' defense has only allowed 5.3 points per game this season, so the Pioneers' offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Tug Valley, they will challenge Mount View at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
